Positioning the Golf Ball
Ball position has the largest effect on the direction the golf ball will go when struck. Improper ball position can make the ball fly anywhere from 5-20 yards off line depending on the club. Ball position is directly related to each club you are hitting as each club is a different length. What I will describe is “the general rule of thumb”.
This will give you a guideline to follow and with a little practice you will figure out what really works for you. Body type and personal preference will also be a factors in finding the ball position that works the best.
If you line each club up against a wall with all the club heads equal distance from the wall you will see the difference in length of each shaft which should be ¼” – ½”. In the positions I am describing below I will refer to “your target foot”. This is the foot closest to the target you are hitting or for right handed players it is you left foot.
